Chronic Pain and Illness

Psychotherapy

Chronic pain and illness can have a significant impact on the lives of those living with it. They can take a toll on mental and emotional wellbeing, relationships, and the way we feel about ourselves.

People often describe feeling frustrated with their body, unable to keep up with day to day tasks, or anxious for when they may feel unwell again. Interactions with the medical system and insurance companies can be exhausting and traumatic. Pain and illness can play a big part in our relationship dynamics; creating challenges with the people we care about most who want to help but don't seem to understand or know how.

I work with people who have just received a diagnosis as well as those who have been pushing through pain, fatigue, or other symptoms for years, and are finally feeling the weight of how these experiences have impacted them.

I also work with caregivers, partners, and family members of those managing chronic pain and illness. Pain and illness affects the whole family system and it is important that everyone has a space to process their experience.

Does going to therapy mean that my pain or medical condition is in my head?

No! Pain is real and the emotional pain that can surround physical illness is real. Therapy can help manage pain with concrete tools as well as change the way we relate to our pain and manage the challenges that come along with it.
